Job Overview

BACKGROUND 

People in Need delivers assistance in Northern Syria addressing the needs of IDPs and hosting communities in several sectors such as food security, nutrition, livelihoods, shelter, protection, education and WASH. PIN is well-established organization with several field offices, direct implementation and more than 400 employees. Main office sits in Erbil and provides support services to field teams inside Syria. PIN’s contribution to the Syria humanitarian response is amongst the largest, with an annual turnover of over $35 million across Syria and funding from humanitarian donors including ECHO, ENI, BHA, SDC and SCHF.

People in Need (PIN) started its nutrition activities in North West Syria (NWS) in 2023. Under the supervision of the Programs Director, the Nutrition Program Manager is expected to coordinate the MIYCN-E, CMAM, and Nutrition CVA activities and ensure that the relevant programming nutrition objectives are successfully achieved. The Nutrition Program Manager will be based in Gaziantep with frequent visits to North West Syria.

 

ROLE

In line with the NWS Nutrition Cluster guidelines, the Nutrition Program Manager will be responsible for ensuring the timely implementation of nutrition activities. He/she will supervise nutrition officers, assistants and outreach workers based in NWS, and will also work closely with other program sectors to ensure that the activities are complementary as much as possible. The role also involves the documentation of lessons learned to inform the PIN nutrition strategy in NWS.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Nutrition Project Manager main responsibilities include:

• Ensure quality and timely implementation of PIN’s Nutrition Program (remote management);

• Provide technical guidance and backstopping to the Nutrition team in program implementation

• Work closely with the Area Directors, Accountability Manager, and M&E Manager to ensure that all activities are being appropriately monitored, evaluated and that feedback is reflected in ongoing programming;

• Participate in identifying opportunities to increase scope and quality of PIN´s Nutrition programmes;

• With support of the Grants Department develop programme proposals and ensure timeliness and quality

• Internal and donor reporting;

• Promote synergies and coordination across all PIN’s areas of operation among Nutrition actors, represent PIN and work closely with the Nutrition cluster, working groups and other relevant actors.

• In cooperation with other team members represent organisation and maintain close collaboration and good relations with donors and other partners;

• Supervise and support the Nutrition team in NWS. This entails Oversight on implementation progress, task management, quality assurance, administrative procedures, reporting, and GZT/field discussions

• Work closely with the finance department to ensure accurate projection of spending and forecast, adjust plans in light of foreseen over/underspending, and ensure that expenditures are in line with the projects’ objectives.

• Work closely with other support departments to ensure timely, qualitative, and appropriate execution of the operational procedures, including but not limited to the procurement of goods and services and staff recruitment.

 

With technical support from the Global Nutrition Advisor, and under the supervision of Programs Director, the Nutrition Program Manager will:

• develop and support the implementation of the nutrition action plan, outlining activities, timeline, and resources needed;

• identify key MIYCN behaviours, and develop and/or adapt relevant social and behavior change communication (SBCC) materials, and modalities of delivery;

• ensure that nutrition staff receive the necessary and appropriate technical support and capacity strengthening;

• monitor nutrition activities at the community level, and strengthen the quality as needed;

• participate in NWS Nutrition Cluster meetings;

• participate in relevant nutrition coordination meetings with PIN NES hub and the Global Nutrition Advisor;

• support nutrition surveys and/or assessments as required;

• document lessons learned; and

• assist in any other tasks as required.

 

EXPERIENCE

Required:  

• A University Degree or equivalent in nutrition, public health, or other nutrition-related field,

• A minimum of 5 years professional experience in nutrition, public health and/or in relevant areas of maternal, infant and child nutrition in a humanitarian context,

• Experience of nutrition programming, including monitoring and evaluation,

• Proven ability of supervising, and training on MIYCN-E, CMAM, Nutrition CVA

• Demonstrable ability at report writing and strong communication skills

• Fluency in Arabic and English.

 

Desirable:

• Experience of the cluster approach at country level.

• Experience of SBCC

• Master Degree in a related field
